Community Sanitation Improvement Project

In Bangladesh, despite advancements in various sectors, 118 million people—about 69% of the population—lack access to safe and sanitary toilet facilities. This deficit creates hazardous living conditions, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly, and facilitates the spread of diseases. The challenge is especially acute in urban slums, refugee camps (including Rohingya camps), and rural areas, where overcrowding and inadequate sanitation exacerbate health risks.

To tackle this pressing issue, the Southern Charity Foundation (SCF) has launched its Community Sanitation Improvement Project. This initiative aims to provide safe and hygienic toilet facilities to families in underprivileged areas. By ensuring access to proper sanitation, SCF contributes to reducing the transmission of infectious diseases, improving hygiene, and fostering a healthier environment for communities in dire need.

As of now, this program has benefited 5,640 individuals, significantly enhancing their living conditions and mitigating health risks associated with poor sanitation. SCF is committed to expanding this initiative further, striving to ensure that every family—regardless of their location or circumstances—has access to safe and dignified sanitation facilities.

This initiative is part of SCF’s broader Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for Sustainable Communities efforts, which focus on improving public health, minimizing environmental hazards, and enhancing the overall well-being of disadvantaged communities across Bangladesh. Through this project, SCF demonstrates its dedication to addressing the critical sanitation challenges facing many in the country.
