Sustainable Water Access Initiative
مبادرة الوصول المستدام إلى المياه
In Bangladesh, despite its riverine geography, access to clean and safe drinking water remains a daunting challenge. Approximately 40% of the population, or around 70 million people, lack access to safe water, especially in rural, plain, and hill tract regions. This scarcity poses serious health risks, including waterborne diseases, which can significantly impact community well-being.
To tackle this critical issue, the Southern Charity Foundation (SCF) has implemented its Sustainable Water Access Initiative. This initiative focuses on providing reliable and safe water sources to underserved communities throughout Bangladesh. By installing tubewells in areas where clean water is limited or nonexistent, SCF ensures that families have access to safe drinking water for their daily needs, ultimately helping to prevent waterborne diseases and enhancing public health.
So far, this program has benefited 31,860 individuals, significantly reducing water scarcity in targeted regions and improving the quality of life for thousands of families. The initiative continues to expand, driven by the mission to enhance health and well-being through access to safe water.
This strategic intervention highlights SCF’s commitment to creating sustainable solutions for some of Bangladesh’s most pressing challenges, reaffirming the belief that clean water is a fundamental right for all.

The installed tubewell (Deep Well No: 10), generously funded by a respected donor (as mentioned on the project plaque), stands as a vital source of safe water for local residents. This intervention will significantly reduce dependency on unsafe water sources, helping to prevent waterborne diseases and improve overall community health.
Through this effort, the Southern Charity Foundation continues its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for underserved communities by providing sustainable and reliable water solutions. This project not only addresses an immediate need but also contributes to long-term health, dignity, and well-being for the people of the region.
WATER FOR LIFE PROJECT (Implemented by Southern Charity Foundation – SCF) BANGLADESH – 2026
From 1st April 2026 to 10th May 2026, a total of 40 (forty) deep and shallow tube wells were successfully installed under the “Water For Life Project” in Gabunar and Padmapukur Union of Shyamnagar Upazila, Satkhira District, Bangladesh.
It is important to mention that this region is a highly saline-prone coastal area where the natural drinking water sources are severely affected by saltwater intrusion. Due to the high salinity level of groundwater, access to safe drinking water has always been a major challenge for the local population. In response to this critical issue, deep tube wells were installed at an approximate depth of 800 to 900 feet to ensure the availability of safe, arsenic-free, and drinkable water for the community.
In addition, it is observed that a significant portion of the underprivileged and marginalized population in these areas still depends on traditional pond water for their daily drinking and household needs. This practice often exposes them to various waterborne diseases and health risks. Therefore, this initiative was undertaken not only to provide safe water but also to improve overall public health, hygiene, and quality of life.
Through this project, the Southern Charity Foundation (SCF) has made a meaningful contribution toward addressing the long-standing drinking water crisis in the coastal belt, ensuring sustainable access to safe water for the affected communities.
