Sustainable Infrastructure & Community Resilience Program
The Southern Charity Foundation (SCF) is dedicated to enhancing living conditions and building resilience among vulnerable populations in Bangladesh through various infrastructural projects. These initiatives focus on improving community well-being and ensuring sustainable development.
- Temporary Shelter Solutions for Rohingya Refugees
With over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar living under harsh conditions, SCF has constructed 725 shelter homes. These shelters provide a safer environment and protect refugees from severe weather, addressing their immediate needs for security and comfort.
- Disaster Relief Housing for Cyclone-Affected Communities
Coastal Bangladesh faces annual devastation from cyclones, flooding, and rising sea levels. In response, SCF has built 175 disaster relief shelters specifically designed for climate refugees, helping to mitigate the impact of environmental disasters and providing essential protection for displaced individuals.
- Community Development through Masjid Construction
Understanding the social significance of mosques as community hubs, SCF has constructed 26 new mosques and rehabilitated 33 existing ones in rural and semi-urban areas. These initiatives aim to foster social cohesion, harmony, and mutual trust among community members.
- Educational Infrastructure Development
Education is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty. To support rural and underprivileged children, SCF has established 7 schools, benefiting approximately 3,395 children. This initiative ensures access to quality education and promotes a brighter future for disadvantaged youth.
- Road Construction Project
In response to the recurring challenges faced by coastal communities due to natural disasters, SCF has constructed durable roads that benefit around 1,975 people. These road networks ensure year-round access to essential services and economic opportunities, facilitating community resilience.
- Ablution Facility Development Initiative
To meet the hygiene needs of underserved populations, SCF has built 376 ablution centers, positively impacting 51,400 individuals. These facilities support the spiritual practices of community members, enhancing their overall well-being.
These initiatives highlight SCF’s strategic focus on sustainable development and community empowerment.
