Rapid Flood Relief Initiative
Bangladesh has been grappling with unprecedented flooding over the past three years, experiencing some of the most severe flood conditions in recorded history. The Sylhet Division faced a flash flood that broke a 150-year record, while the Chittagong Division experienced a flood event not seen for 87 years. Furthermore, the Rangpur and Rajshahi Divisions have endured recurring floods, tornadoes, and other extreme weather events annually. Southern regions, such as Barishal and Khulna, are also suffering from long-lasting floods attributed to rising sea levels driven by climate change.
In light of these escalating crises, the Southern Charity Foundation (SCF) launched its Rapid Flood Relief Initiative. This program aims to provide immediate relief to affected communities, focusing on delivering essential support such as food, non-food items, household essentials, health care, and emergency shelter for flood victims throughout the country.
To date, SCF has provided critical assistance to over 73,876 people impacted by floods in various regions. The organization’s swift intervention has been vital in mitigating the devastating effects of these floods, ensuring vulnerable communities have access to basic necessities and medical care during these challenging times.
SCF is committed to enhancing its Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Resilience Framework to ensure that flood-affected individuals and families receive timely and effective support. The organization aims to build resilience in flood-prone areas, collaborating with local communities to develop long-term strategies to cope with the increasing challenges posed by climate change and extreme weather events. Through this program, SCF strives to help more individuals recover and rebuild their lives in the face of recurring natural disasters.
