Water Storage and Distribution Enhancement Program

Bangladesh is currently grappling with a severe salinity crisis, impacting nearly 2 million people, a figure projected to reach 4 million by 2050 due to climate change and environmental degradation. This crisis has significantly affected livelihoods, drinking water sources, and agricultural supplies, particularly in coastal regions where saltwater intrusion into freshwater sources is most prevalent.

In response to this escalating challenge, the Southern Charity Foundation (SCF) launched the Water Storage and Distribution Enhancement Program. This initiative aims to mitigate the scarcity of fresh and clean drinking water in affected areas. As part of this program, 1,900 water tanks, each with a capacity of 500 liters, have been distributed to families in need. These tanks are specifically designed to collect and store rainwater, thereby providing a reliable source of fresh water for drinking and household use.

To date, this program has benefitted 19,678 individuals, offering them a sustainable solution to the water crisis and reducing their dependence on increasingly scarce freshwater sources. The stored rainwater is not only used for drinking but also supports various household chores, thereby improving the overall quality of life for these families.

By concentrating efforts in the coastal regions of Bangladesh, where the impact of salinity is most acute, this program plays a crucial role in addressing the immediate needs of vulnerable communities while promoting long-term resilience against climate-induced water challenges. SCF remains dedicated to expanding this initiative, striving to help more families secure access to fresh water and safeguard their health and livelihoods.
